14 or 16"?

14 or 16"?

Also file name related with regards to the 13". The 13" is no good to me due to display output limitations.

16in should be better

14in is almost as small as 13in in my experience

also afaik base model 14in can't do more than 2 screens

What will you do with it? I own the 16 GB MacBook Air M1 and the 14” M1 Max MacBook Pro 32GB and I given what I do (Blender, Krita, Logic Pro) I see no performance difference.

smaller the better for a laptop

I teach. Most of my work is presenting. The trouble with the 13" M1 is it only supports 1 external display without doing USB display. I need at least one monitor I can duplicate to a projector and a 'teleprompt' screen (even through hardware like a splitter), and I need one for other materials. I was really hoping for a refresh on the regular Macbook Air - if it weren't for the gimped display output, that's what I would have gone for.

And yes, I do prefer Apple, especially for presentations. Being able to broadcast my iPad to the board to draw diagrams and examples is fucking amazing, and Keynote > PPT, Google Slides, Prezi... anything really.

If you're older you'll appreciate the 16" more.

I'm not *that* old. My eyesight has only started to go a little due to astigmatism.

Performance isn't really my concern. It's battery life and usability.

Isn't the 16-inch too heavy? My older i7 one sure is. I think the new one is even heavier.

macbooks haven't been heavy for almost 20 years now

Get out of this board when getting an opinion. You're employed and actually make money, we don't do that here.

But on a more serious note, the 16 inch has significantly better battery life and a bigger display, but the 14 inch is much easier to carry which is important if you're using it for teaching. All other factors are irrelevant and/or secondary.

14" is like 3.5lbs
16" is like 4.8lbs

Where else am I going to ask? Plebbit? They'll just tell me to buy some shitty ricer gaming PC from Chink Corp. Any Forums at least understands pragmatism.

I think the 16" runs the risk of starting to be too big for the laptop pouch in my briefcase too. I'm leaning more towards the 14". I want the laptop to last 3-5 years. At the moment I'm just looking at the base 14" model.

just get the base 14 model. it's the one i have been using for two months now and i guarantee you are going to be happy with it. if you don't have a problem with the notch, this thing is a 10/10 flawless
machine

literally the only apps that perform anywhere remotely decent on the M1 are ones whose devs apple paid off to make their apps run like shit on windows so they can showcase them in their 'apple events'

Quick question about the notch, how do menus interact with it in the top bar? The mouse seems to go straight through. Do you lose menu items to it?

14" for portability, 16" for battery.
Pro for battery and price, Max for power in very specific workflows.
Honestly I'd go for the 14" with the M1 Pro.
It's fast as fuck in everything, and in some workflows it's absurdly, comically faster than anything in its pricepoint.

hmmm handbrake is also bought by Apple?

oh no there's this ONE software that's single specific feature is optimized better for an M1 MAX than an 11800h
oh btw you can buy a notebook with a 12900h now for the fraction of the price of a mac with M1 MAX

Anyone know if any Linux distros run seemlessly with the new apple arm silicon yet?

Do MacBooks still have those awful keyboards on them? I loved my 2012 mbp 12", but I just can't stand those keyboards with the tiny travel.
