Not him but my bank for example requires an otp to log into the website which can only be generated by the app. Although I think they let the otp generator work even if your device is rooted

This is pretty much the case on all banking apps at this point. It's the sad reality of the present, and a dark snippet of the future. As everything becomes more phone-centric, they'll find ways to fuck over people who root or install custom roms, to stop you from doing it so they can continue to monitor you. That is why the only real solution is to make linux phones not a meme.
