Is this the standard for installing software on a Linux based operating system? Is this why it's so secure? Because you can't install anything? Not even a video player?

no it's not the standard. thread over.

Its secure because it filters people like you

so it's like a secret cool kids club?
I wonder why the developer would put these instructions on their github

>so it's like a secret cool kids club?
Nope. You just need an IQ over 70 to ride.
>I wonder why the developer would put these instructions on their github
I wonder why you cant read simple text.

>doesn't know what install means
>tries to build master without outdated build system
The number one issue with linux is people like you.
You download it and think your a leet haxor who can do everything from the command line without bothering to learn how it works.
Then you come here and whine when you get something wrong, blaming the operating system instead of your own stupidity.
Use the graphical installer that came with your system, if one didn't, you downloaded the wrong distro because you though you could do without one.
You aren't 1337, either learn to be, or stick to the GUI shit.

>I wonder why the developer would put these instructions on their github
Because other people who want to develop mpv will need to build it from source.
Do you want to become an mpv developer?

that was the meson package that I got from my extra secure repository.

Maybe go build a newer version so you can plea to the repository gatekeepers to update their shit.

>use stable OS
>wonder why packages are stable
Not a problem for anyone with a clue.
What even is your problem here?

Just following the instructions.

>filtered by package managers
holy kek

No, I did it all the way the developer said to.

>Just following the instructions.
Imagine getting filtered by an obvious error. Topkek

I guess my next step would be, becoming a Ubuntu developer and getting in with their team. So I can help them keep their meson package up to date.

Do those instruction say “install” anywhere?
Just install mpv from the place you got meson.
Going to the website to install something is the windows way of doing things, and that is the source repository which is mainly used by devs.
Looks like your on something gnome based, open the appstore and search for mpv.

Nope not going to happen. Try doing an HRT program first

Is that a new build system?

>these are the people making muh loonix bad threads

Can you explain what's wrong?

>ERROR: IQ is 0.53.2 but project requires >=70.0

Yeah but that was the package I got? How is that my fault?
sudo apt install meson

You tried to build the software from source instead of installing it from the appstore / package manager.
This demonstrates a lack of any basic knowledge, and the inability to look up something as simple as “how to install mpv in $MY_DISTRO”.

Try:
sudo apt install mpv

On arch this is just

>I grabbed package from muh repo
>Its old
>Better make a thread on how i got filtered

Because you could literally get the updated program from somewhere else faster than it took to make this thread. Smooth brain embarrassment

Yay is not officially supported by arch.
Though this does work with pacman.

No that's wrong. It says it right here.

That is the mpv devs being niggers.
It is not the fault of your distribution.
They have packaged a version of mpv, and made it available for you to install.
You have chosen to ignore the way packages should be installed on linux, and instead do some random BS.
That is mpv's fault for giving you faulty instructions.
