iPhones were always a botnet, at least with Android you COULD actually almost totally debotnet the phones other than a few binary blobs used for the modems and such. iPhones won't function without the code that allows them to be controlled by the C&C servers at Apple.

Who cares? Unless you have a dumbphone or a de-cucked Android you are part of a botnet, and for those you need to give up a lot of cool features (like being able to track your shit with airtag). Privacy is always a trade-off and nobody buys an iPhone for privacy.
