If you have many documents, definitely just DIY one or more Rpi4 / low end x86_64 type setups with some web services and syncthing / ssh / samba via wg / ... and drop them somewhere (be it any decent residential internet connction or server colo)
It's far cheaper to get a bunch of TB of storage that way.
If you have almost nothing and don't care and have no sysadmin skills, just go with Google or Microsoft or Dropbox whoever. They're the pleb storage and as privacy invasive / simple as you want.
I use Cryptee for writing things out. It offers a clean and distraction free experience. The completed file then gets exported as a docx. That docx then gets uploaded and stored on Tab.digital's free Nextcloud instance
It has Onlyoffice for my formatting needs, and works like a charm. 8GB from Tab.digital is pretty generous as free providers go, and 100MB from Cryptee is plenty for only text/md files

im already using docs, microsoft (onedrive? idk what else) and dropbox etc. im hoping to do more with dropbox with things that put it on the public internet also
