Honestly, one of the things I like about Plasma the most.
Volume mixer is extremely good and the taskbar widget as well - can quickly mute yourself or the application itself.
I'd use MATE myself with a sciomorphic theme but there's no point since the applications I need to use don't have such a theme and it looks whacky as fuck.
What I value more is consistency.

Probably. I loved KDE 3 but KDE 4 was such abhorrent garbage I stopped using a DE entirely for the duration and only used small window managers and forwent all KDE software. Eventually got a Mac and ditched linux altogether largely due to the pile of shit that was KDE 4.
KDE 5 is nice though. :D

I've been using Plasma since the launch. Had like 3 major crashes, all those years. One was about warmth colors and interaction with Red Light, think it was during a time Plasma didn't come with a solution of it's own back in 2017.
I didn't like the windows animations of 5.24.0 as much, but it doesn't bother at all.
