What terminal emulator do you guys use?

After the end of Termite, I was looking for a minimalistic terminal that used VTE and is compatible with Xorg/Wayland.

Tried kitty and alacritty, even though they had its quirks and xfce4-terminal, that is based on VTE but not minimalistic.

Found kermit (github.com/orhun/kermit) and it's a pretty good terminal emulator that is pretty minimalistic and based on VTE like Termite.

Honestly speaking there is not too much of a difference from one terminal emulator to one another. Unless you want font ligatures or if you pick something so minimal that does not support scrolling and similar basic features.
Use whatever.

My problem with alacritty and kitty was that I always had to do some configuration in most servers I handle with SSH.

With VTE-based terminal emulators always worked fine.

foot on sway :)

st, it just works

i really liked st, but i left it because it has no scrollback. I tried the scrollback patch but it had weird quirks and didn't really work well. Also suckless scroll didn't work very well either.

xterm
>b-but it's bloated
it works, you have to configure it to look good, but it works. (also vte is bloated as well soooo)

alternatively, a fork is being maintained, see

don't worry bro, you only have to add like 3(?) patches for it to work

works on my machine
i applied patches two years ago and haven’t touched it since. still werks just fine

are you gonna get the new version? they released a new version

why would I need to? I don’t have any problems with it

fixes memory leaks or something probably? besides I'm sure some patch will eventually only work with the newest release

Host: konsole
Toolbox: kitty
JUST WERKS.

St

I use Alacritty. only thing i hate about it is that it will refuse to launch after every gpu driver update until i reboot. Other than that it's alright.

Yakuake/Konsole.

Now test urxvtd

Only good answer in this thread

what's the difference?

One's an instance for each window and one's clients tapping into a main daemon

how does this affect the typing latency?
