It's convenient for when you need a quick script that works in a few lines. It's 100% worth learning about piping so you know how to use existing Linux programs together on the terminal.

If you need to start adding a bunch of logic, arguments, or whatnot go use python.

Definitely. Just learn the basics, stuff like for loops, if/else, pipes. Don't bother with things like {##} you can do with shell utils or a little Python script. Bash and Bash-likes are *the* glue lang on *nix platforms.

You probably don't need to be a bash expert, but you'll be handicapped without knowing at least a little bash if you want to do any form of modern software development.
