I remember the first one I had I had to pirate

What

now show us your FG fatty

What? I love these things but prefer ones where the knob only selects the function, and the electronics inside auto select the range for you. The one I have is from RadioShack and has an option to connect to a PC serial port so you can use optional software it comes with to take repeated measurements and graph them - it doesn't sample at a high enough frequency to replace a scope but it's still useful and unlike a basic scope it can graph things other than voltage.

I still use an old ass fluke MM because I'm too lazy to buy any new ones and it's worked fine for me

Fluke makes good and very durable stuff. That's probably going to last another 20+ years if you take half decent care of it.

I kinda want to get one slightly nicer than my $5 chinkshit with broken leads, but then again all I actually use it for is checking continuity and battery voltages and it still works for that

Take your dialator elsewhere troon.

Then why not get a battery tester and a continuity checker?

>die later
Die. Now.

Know what?
It's a multimeter. What do you want to know?

why would I get 2 separate things when one $5 piece of chinese plastic does the job of both

I have this one but no idea what to use it for. I think i used it one time.

Because the $5 piece of Chinese plastic is shitty and breaks quickly as you have discovered. Meanwhile I have a battery tester I got at RadioShack over 20 years ago and it works the same as it always has.
