26 years old boomer who never uses linux in his life here. How do I get into linux and which distro is more suited for cybersecurity purposes like pen testing and such?

u trollin? in case you're just dumb, 26 is millennial not boomer, and Kali Linux is very popular for cybersecurity

autism

kali linux is ubuntu with added freeware downloaded. just use ubuntu if your new it has more jannies

i'm typing this on a ASUS ""laptop"" with eMMC 32GB 2GB memory plastic garbage that came with Windows 10.
I installed Linux MInt xfce and it's better. still hard to even watch youtube 720p sometimes.

For an intro? Use Ubuntu with KDE Plasma. Be prepared to do a lot of googling, progress will be incremental

>which distro is more suited for cybersecurity purposes like pen testing and such?
You don't know anything about Linux and you suddenly decide you're going to start pen testing?

>32 gb emmc
>2 gb ram
user you shouldve just bought a used corporate dell laptop from ebay.
$100 for i5, 4 cores, 1 tb hdd (sometimes 128 - 256 gb ssd), integrated graphics.
in my country theres $50 shipping since theyre all form the us, but still.
i couldve saved $100 on my laptop, but for the ryzen 5 gpu i got i guess it was worth it. convenient at least, good for gayming.

>krashes
just get gnome and gnome tweaks (desktop icons, dash to panel & arcmenu if you want a traditional desktop analogue).
gnome has many more jannies than kde so it actually just works.

HACK THE PLANET

Look up Bash tutorials on youtube to get you started. Good luck.

what model?

I should've added learning, my bad.

You need to learn how Linux works on a basic level before you can even begin thinking about doing pentesting. Download Ubuntu and make it your primary operating system for 3-6 months AND ONLY DO SHIT VIA THE TERMINAL. By then you should have a basic sense of how to work with bash that you can progress onto learning higher subjects like how the kernel works and networking.

could I just use kali linux to learn it the hard way?

>Dell
HP has more on the market suposedly.
e.g.

(3 year old laptop. price range $75 to $200)

this is a very choice pick.

user you should have bought this:

>but for the ryzen 5 gpu
What model?

ryzen 5 3450u with radeon vega 8... integrated graphics.
i think i scammed myself bros. only 256 gb ssd too, apparently that slows my 8 gb of ram. possibly.

$150 more for similar specs, but hell it wasnt used for 3 years and it works.

Stop fucking being retarded and do what people tell you. You know nothing about Linux, what the fuck are you going to do with Kali? None of the programs will make sense because you have no idea what they do or how to operate them. Its just a giant list of program names at your skill level. Fucking install the toddlerOS called Ubuntu and learn Linux by using it day to day. Any problems you google how to do it via the terminal, learn how to do bash scripting, how to compile, how to start and stop services.

this

tl;dr but ok.

ryzen 5 3450u literally has indentical specs to i-5 8250u lmfao.
tl;dr use udindu u dindu
