Discord app was pretty good untill 2017 when it became bloated with all the ads, less convenient UI and goes on
Only wrong thing is that it save everything you do and you can get a server nuked while it wasn't possible on Skype

I haven't used it since 2015, but back then we used it because all other voice chat alternatives were abysmal in one way or another (especially that one you're thinking of right now). I'm sure post-covid that's no longer true, though.

it's much much worse. discord are handing over user information via the chinese company "ten cent", directly to the chinese government. not only do you have literal furry pedophiles reading private conversations, but the chink government also sees them and all of your user information.
