I bought into the Apple ecosystem in part because of Airtags which have among the most practical and boring implementations of AR in existence. I use subtle filters in snap camera during interviews to improve my appearance as well despite it being a "gimmick".
AR is obviously useful at giving people directions which has applications in mapping, logistics, warehousing, etc. I don't see any reason AR won't be more than a tool in the kit though.
