I remember trying to ask women about this, and they mostly gave total nonsense answers (as to be expected). However, after thinking about it some, this could be an evolutionary relic from a time where being randomly assaulted or raped as a woman was a high probability. With that in mind, the fear at least makes some sense.

You may believe that women are "more cautious", but unless they totally vacate all public spaces to a Saudi Arabia type degree, their vastly lower likelihood to be a victim of crime across the board can't be explained away by caution. They have to be fundamentally at much less risk than men for these statistics to be explained.

It's also important to note that the state of fear being measured here is the one remaining after caution has been exercised. If you are trembling in fear of crime even after you...

you can be afraid of crime and still go out. and in a sense its what you should do. if you live in a free country its for no one else to say whether youre allowed to walk your dog or not.
what i am pissed off about is: starting roughly seven years ago (refugees coming to europe, brexit, drumpf, ..) people bitched about people making decisions based on emotions. because "emotions arent real", that kind of reasoning. so why would i care about a particular group being afraid when its not backed by facts?

If you aren't afraid of crime, you're dumb. Crime and heart attacks/strokes/traffic accidents are the only things logical to be afraid of.
