I was really concerned I had autism in my early 20s but my therapist literally scoffed and said "you're not autistic..." and that was it but what would that fucking cunt know? I want to get tested and when it comes back that I am she should blow me every day for the rest of my life.

How did you get diagnosed? Did you just go to a doctor or something?

I've had 6 different other therapists over the past 15 years, and not one over suspected, because I don't present as like monotone or whatever. It wasn't until I half-jokingly said to this therapist that "sometimes I think that I may be on the spectrum" that she took me seriously and started to go over my symptoms. Once a lot of things lined up, she sent me out for official testing.

But the point is, that lots of therapists who aren't autism experts won't recognize it if you don't present as a "sterotypical" autist

i talked about it with my therapist, and she referred me to someone who does autism evaluations in adults

do you have health insurance? you could find somewhere to get evaluated now, even without a referral from a therapist

I don't know how the benefits thing works. But part of my general cognitive testing was also to assess depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc.

So google "[your area] adult autism" and see if you can find an evaluator who takes your insurance
