How the fuck did people figure out calenders? Like, imagine your some guy in ancient Greece who thinks the sun revolves around the earth and who doesn't know algebra or the laws of mechanics. How did he determine that 365 is the perfect number of days to define a year?

Some bleeding bitch lmao!

Mustve been important

sun dials, retard

Ancient Greeks invented algebra and knew the circumference of the Earth.

>googles answer, thinks he's smart

Astronomy retard

How do you derive the 365 without knowing Kepler's or Newton's laws?

You count how many days until the stars are back to where they were originally

>Thinks sun dials are an obscure topic
>Retarded

By being smart. Which the people of ancient times were, unlike you.

the sun revolving around the earth or viceversa makes no functional difference actually
for all intents and purposes you can use a geocentric model

trial and error, given enough time you can do it too.

Not like they had much else to do except count the days

>laughs in epicycles

Would have been a simple think like the seasons at first. Easy to see the changes when you growing things.

>epicycles
they work perfectly well, what is your point

Kepler/Newton equations are more precise and easier to solve

not really, and tycho brahe's model is the best

Dunno man easy lol

back then the calendars were lunar and used lunar cycles to predict the year seasons

Because dumdum, as it turns out ancient peoples (really peoples only a few thousand years ago) were pretty fucking smart. Honestly smarter in many ways than the average person (or American anyway) today.

There was nothing else to do back then besides study and explore the world. No video games, no TV or movies, and books and literacy were largely something for the elite. No distractions, and nothing frivolous to meaninglessly waste your life on.

You either spent time fucking around digging in the dirt for some lord, spent time marching and dying for one of your lord's wars, or you busted your ass at school which showed you the world is a wonder, and that some people can get out of the drudgery of peasantdom by being smart.

Of course it was easier to be smart back then; the world was young, there weren't as many people, and shit (aside from the most extreme theoretical ideas) hadn't been mostly figured out like it is now. Still, society was more conducive to learning, and being smart, and figuring shit out because there wasn't a million other things to do and waste your time on.

this is not true, solar calendars have been a norm in the west for at least 2700 years
