You could, yeah. Make sure to have something where you keep your art public and if you get good enough(and meet standards of the industry) then you could do stuff like artstation for more high paying commissions.

dont public portofolios require your real name and photo to be displayed?

i am scared of that because you know how the internet can be

Well if you're looking to be hired but you can become financially independent off of commissions if you're good enough. Why would you be scared of your name being accessible though, OP? Don't tell me you play to do something distasteful...

>is it realistic to teach myself gd
Yes, unbelievably so. Takes about a week.

>and become financially independent ?
No. Unless you can stand out from the 100k other GDs with some kind of innate eye for design no one will care nor will they want to pay you more than pennies.

Even worse, morons who like DVD box art will dictate to you their commission and you'll have to spend days making something too ugly to use in a portfolio.

no , i dont want to my face connected to my doxx cause i dont want to get doxxed you know

i mean idk if i should even try then or not

I am doing the same thing. I learned web design in a few months and now I am working of graphics. I plan to open a business next year. Just look at trends and copy them. I have made some money on the side already but it's best to have a legal business.

nice user, nice work, have you earned enough to be full time yet? >I plan to open a business next year.
>I have made some money on the side already but it's best to have a legal business.

so do you need to register as a gd studio for it to be legal??

Not a graphic design business per say but every business needs to register depending on where you live. You have to in my country or else it's tax evasion. You can also get government grants and supports if you do. My advice would be to start local and branch outwards. I voluntered with a few organizations and did graphics for them and they said they would comission me if I set up a business. If you don't want to talk to people you will have to look into asset stores or fiver to sell your work.

ty user, what is your country? i hear you about the local thing but do you think it is worth it if the local economy is pretty poor where one lives

I am in western Europe. Even in a relatively poor place you will have wealth disparity. There is money to be made in every town. Businesses need promotional material and they are too busy to make it themselves. Promote yourself on the local facebook group and offer your services. See if you get any offers before committing. You have nothing to loose.

hey i am in eastern , thanks i will post again when i start and want a gd bf lol

nyanyanya yeet

nynanynas nya yeet

>teach myself gd
yes, there's a lot of good courses online

>become financially independent
no, graphic design pays pennies

get some gd courses THEN study UI/UX, that's where the money's at

how you knoooo

because I dropped out of GD but still did some side jobs, then I graduated from CS to make real money an work alongside UI/UX designers all the time since they send us the mockups and prototypes to program, i've never asked them how much they earn but i don't think it's bad since it's a good company

if you just try to be a freelance graphic designer you'll end up selling trash at fiver for literal cents, everyone who pirates photoshop or uses canva to put text on pictures calls themselves graphic designer, even other professions think themselves as graphic designers like architects, marketing ppl, communication/management ppl they all feel like they are graphic designers and that devalues the job.

Idk I am better a5 illustrating than coding but I hear you

I took graphic design for four years, you can realistically do that and become financially independent I think, its not too hard

>being this stupid
UI/UX ppl DESIGN so programmers can CODE
they DESIGN user interfaces in programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Xd, Figma, Sketch and pass the mockups and prototypes to the developers that make those prototypes a real product by programming them

What do you do now
I get that
