Should I get Danganronpa or AI: Somnium Files?
I've never played Danganronpa and know almost nothing about the series except that its a murder mystery sort of thing. I've heard so much praise over it from people ive known that I feel like its probably good.
For Somnium Files, I know thats made by the people behind Zero Escape and I really liked those games. Beyond that, I know little about it too.
I really want a horror mystery game with a good bit of interactivity. Help me out robots
>inb4 research them
I prefer going in blind and being amazed by all the new stuff instead of researching it to death and nothing being a surprise
Should I get Danganronpa or AI: Somnium Files?
i found danganronpa pretty cringe storywise but it does have interesting mechanics for a VN
I liked danganronpa but I am a pretty cringe person
I'm noticing a pattern here
I played both. Here's my takes:
I refunded Danganronpa within 1 hour of playing, it was fucking cringe. The biggest problem I had is when the pop star girl decided she's going to be your assistant. She's a fucking pop star and she's just gonna subjugate herself? Yeah, ok there buddy.
Played AI Sominium as well, bought it on sale for like $10. It started off a little cringe for the first hour and a half. I told my Fiance and she wanted to experience the cringe with me. Then the first twist hit and by the third hour we were fully invested. The cringe factor and anime bullshit was more endearing by the end but the twists and turns were phenomenal.
The biggest difference between the two games was that the characters in AI Sominium stated true to who they were.
I'm also not a weeb and dislike almost all anime I've tried to watch. We're planning to play 999 next.
Overall, Somnium Files is better. But Danganronpa will give you significantly more playtime, lore, etc., if you happen to prefer it. I'm guessing you don't have much money?
I enjoyed Danganronpa a lot. Somnium was eh. Vastly inferior to zero escape, which I went into expecting it to be similar to and was disappointed. DR has better soundtrack, better characters, more engaging story, overall better in just about every way.
Danganronpa is ok, only because it didn't didn't age well
AI Sominium is one of the best VN games ever made, on par with the first ace attorney game
See I really like anime so this almost sounds like a recommendation for Danganronpa kek
At least Somnium must be really good though
The opposite actually. I'm a fulltime wagie so I have little time and have to pick and choose what I can play
What's the gameplay like? I know they're primarily visual novels but nobody's ever really told me if Danganronpa has more to it than that
It's sounding like Somnium is pretty good I'm more interested in it now, I'll probably go with that but will hang in the thread to see what others say
Ah, I get you. I'm used to my shitty policy of owning a massive backlog of games I want to play, lol. Be aware that the trials in Danganronpa can be overly long and hard to get out of if you're busy. Somnium doesn't have that problem.
>HE DIDN'T GET SAYAKA'S INTENTION FROM THE START
Actual braindead levels of reading comprehension.
Oh I have a massive backlog don't get me wrong. I'm just really in the mood for a horror mystery lately with more to it than a pure VN usually has. I don't mind long games or events in games if they're good
i went blind into danganronpa and it (and specially two) became one of my favorite thiings ever, not the minigames tho, the minigames suck
>What's the gameplay like? I know they're primarily visual novels but nobody's ever really told me if Danganronpa has more to it than that
It's visual novel with a few dialogue/choice selections up until the murder/trial (6 per game). At the point of the murder, you go around and it's basically point-and-click to look at the crime scenes and collect evidence, talk to characters to get their testimonies/thoughts, and then the trials have a lot of minigame-esque elements. It's exciting to me personally, I like mystery solving games.
There's also "hangouts" per chapter where you can basically walk around and talk to a character of choice and get more of their lore, but it's entirely optional.
Also, the third game has a fun extra boardgame style thing after you finish the main game that consumes several hours in and of itself. I found it fun personally.
Also there's a "2.5" game that's a 3rd person shooter, but it's an optional side story.
The trials sound like fun, now it sounds more similar to ZE
They do have similar elements, dangan is more fast paced and has a lot more comedic/quirky elements whereas ZE is more "serious" in it's aesthetic. But it was directly inspired. The main character in DR1 has a reference to 999 on his outfit.
its fun how things go to shit really fast
some user mentioned its slow at first and it really is but only at first
it has good twists, the murders are unexpected and you feel amazing when you figure it out and when you manage to win
I like Danganronpa but maybe Im just built different
i obsessed over danganronpa when i was 13 replayed them on steam 2 years ago and had 2 much fun i reccomend. ai somnium files is a much more later play imo play
>danganronpa
then >
your turn to die
then
>zero escape games
then
>twewy
and
>ai somnium files
If I've already played the Zero Escape games and both twewy games, what should I do?
