Happened to get a pretty good prof for a religious anthropology class to satisfy a course requirement. Basically the western stance against suicide stems from developments in early Christianity and how it's scholars/thinkers debated/addressed it. Christianity being a universalizing religion open to all people and offering eternal paradise and salvation after death ran into a problem in that it was really popular with downtrodden/poor/marginalized people with wretched lives. Lives that sucked enough and with faith strong enough in this view of a paradise after death for the faithful that Christians would actively seek to out death through martyrdom at the hands of the late Romans. Basically there was a pretty large segment of early Christianity that was headed full speed towards becoming a giant death cult. Scholars that were against this were a bit at a loss on how to argue against it but eventually opted to double down on the prohibitions against suicide and put an increased emphasis on spreading Christianity essentially making the arguement that there was work left undone while there were people that hadn't heard of the faith so it was irresponsible to seek out an early ticket to the afterlife.

it's guaranteed to fuck someone up. the EMT, the cop, that family member who you think forgot you. they're going to be seeing your brains or your asploded torso or your blue-cheese-looking sweaty face for quite a while. they'll be sad about you and imagine you living and happy. it'll fuck with their jobs and their relationships and their ability to enjoy anything.

if some of these people had mental illness already it might break them completely. I lost my actual mind this year because I already had PTSD and now I'm not in reality a lot of the time. I was on disability but I can't even do the paperwork on time now.

If you're an older adult, legal and pragmatic issues. your debts, your house that your family can't afford to keep without you, your pets that nobody but you could take care of who have to be given up.

that's why basically. it's not fair to the person suffering but unfortunately, exiting this plane of existence causes a big wound even if you have terrible relationships. I'm chronically suicidal and I understand it very well, but I've also worked with suicide survivors for a long time and they're pretty screwed.

Raising people is very expensive.
A good chunk of tax money is dedicated to raising you and making sure you're safe and sound.

Killing someone in society means throwing out hundreds of thousands of dollars in investment the government has pushed onto you out of the window.
Of course, if you plan on staying NEET for the rest of your life, it would make sense, but government usually expect you to start working someday.

The core of you has eroded. You feel depleted. Empty. Worthless.
That fucking happened to you, you're still feeling the aftershocks.
My justification against suicide: You deserve more. After inhabiting a lifetime of neglect and self-hatred, there ARE parts of you that should die off-- You should live to build something inside yourself that replaces those dead parts. Sadly, suicide will not bring you peace-- your last moments will be sheer terror, and a loneliness that completely dwarfs anything you've ever felt before.
There's more in this life for you. I think you can have a piece of it, however imperfect or fleeting that may be.

Suicide promotes suicide.
Take what said but apply it to society instead. In times of great hardships if it is acceptable for a human to take an easy way out, there is a great chance he will in the heat of the moment, he might even encourage others to do so.
The only way to prevent this is to denounce, unlegalize and obscure anything suicide related, make it seem like an unacceptable and discouraged action in any kind of situation.

The main reason is that it offends the sensibilities of broader society. They struggle to empathize with that situation and it brings out feelings of horror, anger, and disgust.
Also there is the fact that suicides tend to be done on impulse, and the people who do them often don't actually want to die. Society operates under the assumption that if the person could get over their hangups, they would be happy to be alive. From what I have seen, this is usually the case.

What shes trying to say is that suicide is based eugenics
