Youre full of shit desu lad. What are you applying to?
I have applied to 4 jobs with a resume that has NO job experience at all. Not a second. I have my education that finished before university and then a 10 year gap. Out of 4 applications I got 2 interviews. One of the interviews I didnt even attach a resume or cover letter. Just filled out the form and then got an interview
there really are a shortage of jobs going on right now, you should at least get interviews no matter how shit the CV
Not OP but I applied to a job that's basically a demotion in the field I currently work, and never heard back. I'm a manager and the position is for a floor worker, which is what I originally started as and is the positions of the people immediately below me.
I've also applied to other jobs in the field and ones outside my current experience. I've heard nothing back from anything.
Its still a numbers game, you cant expect to apply to 2 jobs and get it. You shouldnt see taking a lesser job as putting you at an advantage either. In fact its probably worse. When I applied to jobs that required no intelligence what so ever I purposely removed my university experience because I feel like it will only hinder me. From an employers perspective why would they hire grossly overqualified people? Youll be leaving in 6 month when you find something better. Its a real risk.
If you apply to a worse job that requires npothing but manual work your experience and stats dont give you any benefit over anyone else.
Apply for jobs is basically useless now if it isn't retail. I'm a software engineer and it's all about taking whatever jobs recruiters can find you.
>You shouldnt see taking a lesser job as putting you at an advantage either. In fact its probably worse
I work security tho and all companies seem to promote from within, if I dont apply to lesser positions I'm basically stuck at this one. Plus the other position pays more, the company I'm at severely underpays.
>From an employers perspective why would they hire grossly overqualified people?
If someone is grossly overqualified I would at least interview them. Perhaps their ideals align with the company, they have a passion for the work, or (in my case) they intend to move up in the company and put their qualification to use. I understand the risk but there's still benefits as well
Same. We're experiencing nepotism. The only job I can get is those my immediate family can recommend me to. They do not care about my skill.
>Its still a numbers game
Yes and no. You can put the odds more in your favor by tailoring your resume. I always tailor my resume to the listing and generally get at least one response response for every five applications
Fellow securitybro, what's your current job title?
No one's hiring and when I do small jobs on an app I get harassed. Schizo conspiracies are real, fml.
Yeah Ive been applying since I graudated in July. Ive heard back from a few companies but no interviews yet.
I was told by the uni advisor to make 4 CV's with each one being specialised for what I want (Analayst, Portfolio Manager, Pricing Analyst, Accountancy)
>Fellow securitybro, what's your current job title?
Incident report lead. On my resume I put monitor lead though. My company kind of screwed us on titles. You?
Yeah I've literally never heard of that and I'm on LinkedIn a ton. I'd consider changing your job title to something like "Lead Security Officer" or "Senior Security Officer". I don't know your duties or achievements obviously, but maybe something more conventional like that would help. "Monitor Lead" isn't bad but it seems kind of limiting and may not be picked up on by resume skimming software (whatever it's called).
I would post your resume on r/resumes (inb4 reddit) to ask for advice on formatting and stuff. Also are you in school for anything? Do you see yourself working in security long term?
Anyway, my current job is objectively pretty cool, but I hate it. My title is Security Coordinator but I'm basically a glorified guard. I work overseas for an American company though, which has been an interesting experience. And even though I feel like a glorified guard, there are local guards below me that do the shitty work.
>Lead Security Officer
That sounds way better than any of the titles we have, I'll use that. For resumes I tend to just use the Indeed one, I used to tailor it for every job I applied to but still never heard back from anything so I figured why bother. Thanks for the tips on the title though, I should probably look more into the positions I apply for and steal phrases from it too right? I think that's a thing.
>Do you see yourself working in security long term?
Unfortunately yes. Dont get me wrong I like the job, but the pay is pretty subpar and doesnt seem to have much room for improvement. I have some sort of disorder that doesn't let me sleep at night. I don't think it's insomnia because I sleep great during daytime. But because of that it sort of limits what other jobs I could do, pretty much just graveyard shift stuff.
>I work overseas for an American company though, which has been an interesting experience
How does that work? Is it any different from working as a guard for a more local company? I feel compelled to ask because it's part of why I love the job do you have any scary stories?
I'm attempting to get into security as an intelligence analyst, but companies don't seem to want anyone without any experience so far, so I'm working in an unpaid internship position for now. Gonna try to get some other random job while I finish that internship. Heard about hiring freezes in the tech sector too.
>steal phrases from it too right
Yeah I do this sometimes. Just don't take entire sentences, instead take verbiage that really appeals to you. Since you plan on sticking in the field, consider pursuing a degree while on the job. I got my associates while working full time on a boring post.
It sucks you have that disorder, but at least night shifts are plentiful lol
>Is it any different from working as a guard for a more local company
The tasks honestly aren't all that different. I still deal with entitled people, just ones that don't speak English natively. Since I'm employed directly by the business I work for, I don't get to work at multiple locations or anything like that. Kind of sucks because there's novelty in that, but also I hated being a contract guard.
>do you have any scary stories
Not at my current job. But in the past I worked at a local historic landmark with cameras that had motion detectors attached to them. When the detectors went off, a clip would be saved and it would appear in a queue for the camera operator to review. One shift I was an operator and witnessed a janitors closet open and close itself.I was working with other people, but volunteered to approach the door myself . It was nerve racking, to say the least. And I could never figure out why it happened. Nothing was out of place in the closet. I originally speculated that a broom fell on the knob, but even that wouldn't explain how the door managed to close itself.
I've got more anecdotes from that job, but don't want to dox myself haha. I doubt many people have worked all the specific kinds of posts I've had, which makes it easy to narrow down.
I'm trying but nobody wants me having been out of college for almost 2 years without a job. seriously considering working retail again.
>I applied for data entry analyst, shit job but heard nothing back lmao
>Applied for a position saying transcribing, heard nothing as well
>Applied for chat tech support, says they already reached their roster for the trainees
>Applied for virtual assistant, heard nothing back
Shit senpai, this is not bussin' no cap on god fr fr
Who is she and why do you keep posting her?
I applied for 7 different entry level jobs (fast food, retail, etc.) and only one texted me back, tried to schedule an interview then they just left me hanging. this was 4 weeks ago so I think I'm just going to give up trying to get a job and focus on managing my anxiety and my garden
>Since you plan on sticking in the field, consider pursuing a degree while on the job. I got my associates while working full time on a boring post.
What degree did you get? Or what would you recommend? I havent seen any jobs that require a degree in this field.
>I doubt many people have worked all the specific kinds of posts I've had
Well, I think the landmark thing is common in security for small towns and generally the midwest. So being international I'd say your extra safe. Since you watch cameras too I have to ask, have you ever seen people just freeze? Like stop walking and stand perfectly still? Not looking around or on their phone, just like an idle pose, and then keep going like nothing happened?
CS cuck here. Applied to 20 different JR dev positions, got 1 interview, didn't get the job.
Trying to pad my resume with projects rn. Losing motivation fast. Coding projects is fucking demoralizing because im basically doing all shit shit to impress some dude and get a "woah neato you did that by yourself" then I get rejected.
Fuck my life.
I've been applying to jobs left and right. My current job only pays $15/hour but I have a bachelor's and certifications I just want to make more money because $15 is basically minimum wage
