Your parents let someone mutilate you for life as part of a religious ritual because they asked nicely, it seemed polite to say yes, and/or everyone else is letting their children get mutilated anyway.

Mutilating the genitals of male children is legal in the west despite circumcision and FGM removing the same tissue as human genitalia are homologous and only one type of FGM is worse than male circumcision, which is type IV and the rarest form of FGM. The most widely praticed forms of FGM done remove the clitoral hood, which is homologous with the foreskin or are the ritual nick, which is a pin prick to draw a drop of blood. No form of genital mutilation is prohibited on male children in the west so you could legally castrate a male child but if you do the ritual nick to a girl you go to prison.
