You're born with it. Though the symptoms only aggravate from your early to late 20s. Could've gone way better for me if my previous optometrists were competent, but they never even tried to find the issue and only prescribed more and more glasses that obviously didn't help at all, I was really lucky last year that I found one that bothered to properly check my eyes. I'm still very resentful towards the people who failed to help me

Trust me user, I'd gladly lose both my legs if that meant I could get my eyesight back. I can't even watch shows or play plenty of games anymore. Can't even read books either.

And for the anons who are lurking, if you feel there's something wrong with your eyes, go check them as soon as you can. A lot of diseases, not only eye related can pop up over the years without you knowing. Better safe than sorry.

Is there not someone you can talk to about that? Sounds like your eyesight could have been saved but you were let down. Feel like you deserve some form of compensation.

I'm severe hard of hearing myself. Similarly it degenerated over time. Nobody caught it when I was growing up. They just assumed it was regular retard kid shit. They standard check for eyesight problems in kids around here but not hearing.

If I ever lose my eyesight I'd be fucking Hellen Keller tier cripple. The thought of that causes concern from time to time..

Right now I'm trying to get government to give me disability checks since I'm eligible for it . While I wish I had a full time work and receiving a proper salary, that will have to do sadly. But if you mean suing the doctors for letting me down I doubt I could win, my country is corrupt so that would only serve to sink me financially.
At this point I just want to live somewhat comfortably

Did your doctors just dismissed you? One of my optometrists was an old guy who didn't even want to look me in the eyes (lol) and only cared about reading whatever was on his laptop and paper. Basically wanted to prescribe me glasses and wanted me to fuck off already. Sure as fuck feels like a lot of medics are in just for the money and not to actually help people.

Got diagnosed at age 10. Prob have the same eye sight as back then or maybe slightly worse. I cannot tell myself.

This. I have it on both eyes and I am fucked. The best way to treat this shit disease is to find it as soon as possible. Otherwise it will caught you off guard and it will be too late to do anything about it. My current doctor even told me that if I waited a couple more years I'd lose most of my eyesight.

I complained often about irritations with my ears as a kid. My parents would take me to our GP and he'd look in my ear canal with that stupid little scope thing and be like, I don't see anything wrong. Well no shit. The ears are internal organs with the inner workings. You can't see fuck all from looking down the canal. It turns out my inner ears are fucked.
What they should have done is sent me to the ENT specialist and tested for signs of degrading hearing levels over the years. That was too much work though.

So even though we found out about it when I was 10 to this day (I'm 31) I've done nothing about it.
I got contact lenses when I was 13 after a few check ups but then I only used them for 1 year because I couldn't deal with them. Irritating the eyes because those contact lenses were very hard.
So I have done nothing about it since. Its been fine.
