In the 18-24 demographic cohort, it's 35% of men that report no sex, and 20% of women. In other demographic cohorts, the rates of sexlessness are comparable and in the single digits.
Ergo, this is a recent trend. In previous generations, less than 8% of the male population reported involuntary celibacy. What happened around the late 00s and early 10s? Hmmm.

Here's the actual meta-analysis, by the way.
Interesting read. Male sexlessness is rising while female sexlessness is declining, for the first time since the survey and subsequent meta-analyses started recording the statistics. The two datapoints used to be (predictably) correlated closely. That's not the case anymore.
All the social scientists rushed to justify the trend. They purport it's because of rising costs in housing, more women going to post-secondary education, more women getting careers, and more people living with their parents. They effectively (and often explicitly) admit that the reason for male sexlessness is a shift in women's' priorities and aspirations.
It's hilarious to read some of their arguments. They state the "80-20" trope is erroneous, since in reality, the top 20% of men are actually having sex with 60% of the women. Unironically.

These are volcels, not incels (most incels are escortmaxxing). The best explanation is that only the most monogamous people are having children, so the latest generation has a larger percentage of monogamous people, who have a harder time finding each other, in a sea of promiscuous people.
