I think it already has. Societal collapse isn't one big easily identifiable event, but rather a slow progression of descent through multiple exacerbating factors.

If we are lucky we might go boom this year, chances are higher then ever right this moment so prepare your bunkers.

Long before civilization as we know it today ever rose from the dirt, there were fallen civilizations that roamed these lands. They built grand cities, had mastery of bioengineering, and fared space. Unfortunately for them, the cataclysm came. The cataclysm was far stronger than anyone could've prepared for. A few deep underground shelters, survival bunkers, across the globe housed the remainder of society. Over time, however, such shelters dealt with hardships, shortages, and eventually had to dispose of inhabitants.
The first ones to return to the surface and survive from these outcasts learned to pave civilization.
The mystics, those who tried to carry humanity's knowledge to the future, utterly failed and had their libraries and sanctums destroyed by these outcasts.
Now we're in a dark age, teetering on cataclysm once again, but now we're without the same technologies.
Likely only those who know of the great caves in certain islands and special areas on certain continents will survive.
Let's hope the next resurfacing will be nicer on us.

At some point there will be a 2nd great depression due to climate change, overpopulation and resource depletion, except this depression will never end and new technology won't offset it. It won't be nice, there will be wars erupting across the rest of the world, though I expect the west will be more stable, things will start to deteriorate, extremism will rise, people will be poorer and more agitated.

My advice is to steadily accumulate money, invest it first in medium risk stocks which are set to grow but once things start to get bad invest them in something else. Become ingratiated with a community somewhere and invest in a business that is decidedly your own, something low profile but which will keep you and your family above the water so you are unlikely to go through the worst poverty and won't become a target for whichever set of demagogues comes to power.
