It's definitely not just you, but I also think it's sort of for a reason. The second you touch a western promotion or criticize any promotion, you open yourself up to people that're just there to bait and whine. These threads are (very intentionally) just about the good parts of wrestling and what I and others enjoy seeing, which in turn creates a positive atmosphere for the threads. It's become a nice habit for me and I know there're many others that spend their weekends here, hanging out and talking about wrestling. It's nice.

Also, ELP has been massively entertaining and has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt he belongs in NJPW as a HW, but Yoshi has undoubtably been one of the MVPs of the tourney and I hope he wins the NEVER belt. Finlay's been amazing too. Hell, all of D Block has been great, even Yujiro.

I'm not denying that, I remember vividly how impressed I was after his G1 match against Naito in 2020. What I mean more is his match quality as a singles wrestler has been stellar, maybe even higher than I expected from him. His matches vs. Juice and ELP were top five contenders for me.
I think the point of those spots here is just showing their familiarity. There's callbacks in their G1 match to their two singles matches from 2021, which in turn had callbacks to their BOSJ finals as well. I don't really mind them in that sense, but I've never been a huge fan of Ospreay's mach two nonsense. I think he reeled it back respectably for the finish, though.

Hey, OP, what do you think of Ospreay VS Takagi getting the 5.5 stars? I know Meltzer stars are just an opinion and all, but where would you rate the match? Cause to me, it's not even in the top 5 and I'm not even sure it was the match of the night.
They have literally never appealed to me.
