I didn't mean "all things get worse forever", I meant "some things". specifically I was thinking about the state of free expression. you can hardly deny that freedom of speech has taken a hit since the 90s. that's what "truth" is about first and foremost. you cannot have a society that values truth AND a society that suppresses speech. the elites have clearly chosen the latter now, in an overreaction to the internet. the internet has sped up the spread of information - information that was previously deemed PRACTICALLY suppressed without the need for an explicit law. now that any information can spread anywhere in no time the elites have lost a huge amount of control over what people know and believe, and their first reaction has been to try to make the internet shut up basically. they'd really prefer to silence the whole thing and go back to how things were in the 20th century. you could say and write whatever you wanted but it wouldn't spread because for that you'd need a big TV network or newspaper which conveniently only the elites had access to. so in practice only THEIR ideas really ever spread around the globe. as long as that was the case they didn't care what some "crazy person" somewhere had to say. they were okay with "conspiracy theorists" before the internet because they knew no such person or movement could threaten them as long as they just kept it off the TV and out of the newspapers.

Not really. Humanity's struggle to build civilization was always a struggle to leave violence and nature behind, and build a prosperous order of peace.
Throughout history, the peace inside one empire came at the expense of war in another land, and that still holds true today. A 1/3 of the world is at war. It's just not being fought in the wealthy countries's backyard.
