Its actually the opposite. It doesn't help when your major in election engineering, and trying to bend your head around insanely complex stuff like LQG and Kalman filters in control theory or Maxwell equations and while you don't know what half god came up with the math behind it. Then your brother who's doing an English major is and gets 4.0 for a two page essay writing on how reading Uncle Tom's cabin made him feel. Then he's all smug and thinks he deserves equal pay to you for "also having a degree".

Surprisingly enough people in Math are quite humble, at least in my experience.
