I've wanted to do underwater diving for a long time. I've always felt it to be very peaceful underneath the water. I think I'm going to start with free diving with a decent mask and go to some lakes around me, and then maybe get into full scuba sometime down the line.
hmm

Scubooba diving.
Pretty much all deaths from scuba diving are from untrained people going too far (e.g., open water diver going into a cave, which requires an entirely different training).
I've dived about a dozen times, and I would say while it is fun, you don't really do much activity unless you have to swim against a really hard current or hike in your gear somewhere. After all, less energy=less oxygen spent = more bottom time. Highly recommend it however, it is one of the most fun things to do and the closest the common man can get to being a astronaut as well as the underwater world being really cool.
I want to do it but I have no money
Soon though. Just don't get the bends. Like Dom's or ligma but deadly
In regards to actual fitness? No lol. I work at a pool and I've had a few scuba divers apply for a lifeguard job where you need to be able to swim 200 meters in under 6 minutes (piss easy) and all the scuba divers couldn't do it.
Swimming wont get you jacked bro but it’s definitely a life skill, now for diving on the other hand. You’re basically just exploring underwater bro it’s like walking, and walking won't get you fit.
SCOOBA
>t. doesn't want to find the treasure
No, but actually learning to swim crawl stroke with proper form will transform your body into peak condition if you do it consistently. Once you have a handle on surface work and can swim 5km in a single session begin working on aerobic training and become the freediving gigachad peak human you were meant to be
