Literally just go to a perfume store and pick out like 5 fragrances that look/sound interesting. Spray them on strips and smell them and form an opinion.
The only thing you need to watch is fragrances that match certain seasons. You don’t want to be wearing an earthy cinnamon patchouli bomb in summer, or a light lemon verbena scent in the snow.
A lot of men’s fragrances go for the Swiss Army knife approach these days Sauvage, Bleu de Chanel, Creed Aventus, Aqua di Gio Profumo etc. They’re all anytime, anywhere, any season fragrances. Personally I HIGHLY recommend Aqua di Gio Profumo or Absolu.
Don’t bother looking at fragrance threads on /fa/. They’ll try and convince you that niche and artistic fragrances that cost $700 are the only acceptable ones to wear and everything else is trash lol.
