probably like a month, literally just stretch every day, it's super easy I'm actually gonna do it too, I remember I used to be able to do splits

depends on how much you stretch and your bone structure some people have a much easier time than other based on their hips
BUT read hyperbolic stretching and do it religiously and you will be able to do the splits extremely fast compared to just random stretching

I did side splits training for 4 months, made progress, got distracted with another routine, stopped doing side plates for 4 months, the one day I picked it up again, and lo and behold I kept all my flexibility gains.

A very honest answer OP is 18 months.

It’s very likely you could achieve that much sooner, maybe 8 months or a year, but if you honest to god want to achieve sideplits as an adult with zero flexibility training, you should expect it to take 18 months. Yes it’s possible you may have some genetic predisposition and progress really quick, but don’t bet on it. Real progress for the average is slower than molasses. But it will come if you want it. It absolutely will come if you want it and are consistent, but you need to be aware that it won’t come quickly.

Tom Merrick is a good resource. Fitness FAQ’s has a side split program, emmit Louis from handstand factory is a specialist in sidesplits his content will help, etc

Just need to decide if this is what you actually want to pursue

You can more easily do straddle handstand press and do more interesting handstand shapes. It opens the door to a different world. It depends if you care to get into that world. Straddle press is cool as shit though and will impress literally everyone from an advanced lifter to a normie
