At the 6-7 range your muscles go into ligmaitus mode and stop tearing, thus the need to do 8+ or 5< reps to actually get progression

Ay chummers, I want to get a new distro as my artix system has completely selfdestructed itself over time.
Before I used manjaro which was uncool because you needed to literally break the system to turn off mouse acceleration.
I tried installing Gentoo on an old thinkpad but I somehow fucked up and the kernel errored compiling after 18 fucking hours.
I was thinking about arch or something with an even amount of freedom to the user.
Any other recommendations?

This has been debunked years ago you moron. It's because the microtears use intramuscular protein for repair unless your body shifts to hyperstress mode, which is only unlocked at higher rep counts, and boosts absorption of dietary protein.
