Why do smarks favor Bret in the Montreal screwjob?
>Vince asks him to drop the belt
>Wah I don't wanna because it's to Shawn
>Wah I don't wanna because it's in Canada, an entire FUCKING country
Bret loves "the business" but went into business for himself for not dropping to Shawn AND exposing the business to the media immediately after

mommy

Why couldn't Vince just trust Bret when he said he'd put over Shawn for the belt when they got to America? Bret had never misled Vince before

It was Bischoff that he didnt trust. There was nothing stopping him from announcing the night after the show that he signed Bret. That being said, Bret was in on it and it was all a work.

>It was Bischoff that he didnt trust.
That's bullshit lmao. That's like a guy locking away his wife, then saying "iI trust her, it's all the penises out there I dont trust". Bischoff wasn't gonna physically mug Bret for the belt.

i know everyone here is going mommy and based miz and shit like that but unironically thats a 37 year old mother of two and she should be embarrassed and thats a shoot

Vince should have just booked him to lose against Taker, would have solved everything.

Because Bret hated Shawn and if he was putting up resistance to dropping the belt to him in Canada what would stop him from doing so in America?

Vince knew that someone who can't be trusted to honor his wedding vows, can't be trusted. He can smell his own kind, and Bret is just a loser version of Vince.

Vince reneged on his multimillion contract to Bret. Vince has no loyalty and shouldn't have been trusted at that point

This. So much this.

This is complete bullshit by the way. Bret was still under contract for weeks after Survivor Series and Vince could easily have stripped him before he ever had a chance to show up in WCW if Bret refused to drop the title. Personally I think Bret should have just been the bigger man and dropped it to Shawn but Vince was objectively in the wrong.

Your boss doesn’t owe you shit, contract or no contract. It’s called being a professional and doing your job.

It not being in canada is what would stop him. His only relatively legitimate argument.

>Bret loves "the business" but went into business for himself for not dropping to Shawn
That never happened though. Bret never refused to drop to Shawn, he just refused to drop to Shawn in Canada (because that was his contractual right, Bret had creative control over his own creative direction and was allowed to veto things).

People favor Bret in the Montreal Screwjob because Vince deceived him. He told Bret that he was going over and that they would be dropping the belt the next week. Bret was entirely honest about his intentions from day one, it was just business, but Vince crossed the line.
There's a reason Vince didn't try to take legal action against Bret for knocking him out. Vince knew he was in the wrong. The "Bret screwed Bret" shit was just trying to capitalize on the situation and get ahead of the bad publicity.

I like wrestlers who care about themselves over what the promotion or other wrestlers want. That's how you become a star. In reality, they're not wimps who bend to whatever other people want them to do. In kayfabe, they look strong.

I can't believe how much Bret lied, saying he'd drop the title to anyone but Shawn. The call exists where his big idea is to be stripped of the title in Raw.

When it's all said and done, Bret was screwed. Yes, he should have dropped the title to Shawn and moved on. But he said no and his contract allowed for it. Vince doesn't honor his contracts.

>could’ve put the belt on literally anyone else and it would’ve been fine
It makes no sense

Remember when T-Bar, Mace, and whoever else was in that shitty Taking Over The Show gimmick were defending their garbage? Now they're all released or stuck in literal homosexual gimmicks. That's what happens when you don't stand up for yourself.
