Hi guys, I just picked up Ace Combat 7 after I saw it was on sale on Steam for like 90% off. I've been putting off playing it because I want to finish the entire PS2 trilogy on Ace difficulty first before moving on, however I don't think I can wait. How is this game in comparison to, say, Ace Combat 4?

I think it's the best game in the series after playing 2, 3, 4, 5 and 0 over 2-3 months. And speaking from the perspective of somebody who only played through each game once on Normal, it's the only game besides 3 that actually gave me trouble, there were a few missions I had to retry 10 or so times, mostly because I wanted at least an A-rank though.

I came to AC for the fighter jets, and I stayed for the soundtrack. Get the PS2 games when you can, but for now, enjoy AC7.

It’s a pretty fun game. I played through the whole thing like 3 times I think. Online use to be pretty fun too, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was dead now.

I played a couple Aces so far. No idea what ally ESM does besides make missiles miss me more easily.

4 is pretty bad, people who keep calling 4-5-0 a holy trinity are nostalgiafags with holes in their brains and retards who never actually played the PS2 games. 6 is way better than 4 and arguably 5 but nobody ever mentions it because it was a 360 exclusive.

Standard missiles can one-shot under ESM in the first DLC mission on AC7.

the ESM in that mission is much more potent than the equip for balance reasons, probably something like 2x damage, speed, homing, and 1.5x range. the SPW version is probably equivalent to having an upgraded part in each of those categories, so like 10-20% maybe. its use is more defensive, enemies have a harder time locking on which is more useful in MP, but its kind of lackluster in MP anyway since you have to give up your special for it.

6 has the only standard missiles in Ace Combat that can properly lead a target once you line them up properly. Makes flying in that game feel much more satisfying.
