Can the series still compete with it's modern rivals?

There was a time when Nintendo and the Zelda series specifically led the industry in innovation in every capacity. The best graphics, the best gameplay, they were dominating. Their games are still very good, but it's been a long time since they've been leading the industry in any meaningful way. Why should people play a new Zelda game when games like Eldin Ring or the Horizon Series exist? What sets them apart in a positive way anymore?

It's over for zelda

Why are you acting like BotW didnt mog every other open world game?

> Elden Ring
nu-Dark Souls
> Horizon
Shilled snoy trash

Zelda is fun

Raped by Elden Kino

>smellden ring
Doesn't even have emergent gameplay. What a fucking joke of an """"open world""""". Even fucking genshin is more competent.

0/10, watch this shithouse bait reach bump limit

>Elden Ring
...was so shit that hardcore souls-fans that defended ds2 turned their nose at it
>Horizon Series
...is snoytrash which no intelligent human would ever play
>Genshin
...is chinese gacha garbage
>BotW
...isn't open world OoT/TP and therefore SHIT

>but it's been a long time since they've been leading the industry in any meaningful way
After every open world game straight up aping concepts from BotW, it takes a truly warped, disingenuous mind to say something like this.

no because nintendo isn't going the same way as the industry. Every other big company wants to make shit like the last of us with sad 'grown up' stories and 16k graphic and nintendo are still approaching it like a toy company.

>Why should people play a new Zelda game when games like Eldin Ring or the Horizon Series exist?
Maybe because ER and HZD aren't on their platform and Zelda is.

>Zelda is fun
Yes. ER is fun too. Horizon actually doesn't look that bad either, I might even try it once, when it's like ~$10.

It just to be that Zelda was its own thing and didn't have to compete with the likes of Elden ring but it's just another open world series now.
Why is open world so popular?
>You can do anything you want
So what? You're eventually going to do it all anyway

Is this bait? BotW was one of the most milestone games of the century. It has shifted the entire paradigm of open world game design and rival developers are still trying to make sense of it.

This, but also when the fuck did Zelda have the best graphics of its generation? And when did that even matter in the first place? People were never mad at Zelda for not looking like Crysis, at most they were seething about art direction but that's an entirely different thing.

>Is this bait?
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU STUPID FUCKING NIGGER

People catch up. It's only natural, especially as technology stagnates. Once a game is out, it doesn't take a genius to find its flaws and design a similar but better game. (What "better" means will depend on your design philosophy, though. And your players will not be as impressed if they've already played the earlier games.)
You have to keep innovating if you want to stay ahead, but that's also risky. As time goes on, you're bound to fail.

>Doing whatever the fuck I want to do and doing one thing throughout the whole game are the same
This has to be bait

i,love botw but most open world games still look like generic ubisoft openworld games

elden ring and horizon are shit so it shouldnt have much competition if botw wasnt also shit

Elden Ring is just a big empty boss arena, you can't even interact with the environment in any meaningful way

Has done neither of those things though. I'd anything ubisoft games have driven open world design philosophy, and genshin / fortnite have driven monetization and lootboxes.
