go download Crusader King's 2 for free off steam, it's a great distraction, especially during the learning phase.

Might try it again, but the first time I tried that game I really couldn't get into it.
I'm a casual with those types of games. Very surface level. Civ is about as deep as I go.

NTA but it's pretty much both. The campaign levels are portal-style puzzle heists but you can just wreck shit in gimmick gamemodes or flat out sandbox

Before OP gets into this, after like the third mission it becomes Speedrun sim with everything attached to alarms and no way to really exploit anything, it's like the devs decided very early to make the game as unfun as possible
