Ask yourself this, if Sony wanted to promote those games, then why were they not at their state of play? Nintendo was the bigger man in this situation and promoted titles from smaller japanese developers like Koei Techmo who really show the best that small talent japanese studios have to offer. Meanwhile everything Sony showed could be mistaken for AAA Asscreed SJW Garbage.
They are not the same, some of the larger japanese studios like Sega have lost their way and have forgotten what being Japanese is all about. They have done such things to harm their image like closing their arcades or partnering with american movie companies to westernize formerly Japanese centric series like Sonic.
They were convinced by Americans to end the dreamcast which took them years to recover from. If Sega of Japan jettisoned their american division and only focused on Japan they would be in a better place than they are now.
