Contrary to popular belief you CAN infact beat FGO without spending a dime. Most of the low rarity units (minus a few like hyde) are viable and they can carry you through the game. Though its not as easy as it sounds (sadly 4 stars and above are usually better for carrying through anything thats beyond the 5th singularity).

Just get a whale from /alter/ to carry your ass with their broken 10/10/10, MLB Arjuna Alter and you'll be set. And make sure to roll, only when meta servants are up. Sure you can summon some servants that you like, but chances are, the servants that you like is either shit or meh.

I really can't fault anyone but these dregs of society. The system is unbiased in the sense that your functional class doesn't matter but your spending habits do. If people collectively simply had better standards this wouldn't be a problem.

Support system allows you to get carried hard. Some low rarity units are very specialised and excel whenever their niche comes up. Euryale/Robin/Asclepius come to mind.
Some low rarity units just get buffed for no reason again and again. Cu can literally outpace 5* units
Most events will have a free 4* welfare that you get and it will help plug a hole in your lineup until you get a premium unit to fill it up.
Game is governed by game warping supports so in reality you only "REALLY NEED" to roll for 1 unit a year if you want to metafag. Those supports will make your life a 100x easier though.
Gun for your favourites, by the time you hit the big difficulty spikes you should already have accrued some number of premium 4* hopefully alongside at least 1 big support unit.
