Why didn't they release this in the west?

Why didn't they release this in the west?
Did anyone here play it? or the one for DS?

bump

what game is this?

Mahou no Machi

English title for the DS game is Magicians Quest I think.

Very cute

I remember people talking about the DS one and they described it as Animal Crossing but with actual content too like some quests and such. Seems like it'd be perfect for the West but I've honestly never even heard of it outside of Any Forums so I guess the DS game just went under people's radars

The DS one was called "Magician's Quest, Mysterious Times", it was like a soft Animal Crossing-like game with magic, and you can marry the villagers. It was very cute from the little I played of it.

>Why didn't they release this in the west?
Probably because no one bought the DS one. I played it a bit as a kid but I didn't really get it so I never got far. I'd like to give it another shot someday, the character designs are really interesting.

She says there are 3 more games?
Where? for what system?

The day-to-day discovery and development is not as strong as Animal Crossing once you get used to the setting, and the translation of the first game was spotty, but the magical touches were fun, most of the villagers were unique, and villager dates were a neat touch
>have to listen to music to learn it, usually by going to a juice bar and hearing rave music or something unfitting for a seedy lounge bar run by a sad cake
>then you had to perform it for the shopkeeper, usually by whistling it because instruments were expensive
Little touches of soul

There were 3 entries on the DS but we only got the first.
Tongari Boushi to Mahō no 365 Nichi (Magician's Quest: Mysterious Times)
Tongari Boushi to Mahou no Omise
Tongari Boushi to Oshare na Mahou Tsukai

Are there any fantranslations for the later titles, or are we forever damned by obscurity?

You know the answer

That's crazy how a series similar to AC is a huge hit over there and no one heard of it in the west.
Will emulate the first DS game and hope Iearn enough of the game to be able to play the later titles in Jap.

Someone was actually translating the 3DS game but they put it on hold in May because they reached a roadblock on the programming side of things and they need someone else to help out. So yeah, learn Japanese I guess

>huge hit

was it ever?

>was it ever?
Uh well that chick on that blog claimed it was a hit at least.
And well... 4 games in a short time frame.

This is according to vgchartz so take it with a grain of salt but it lists the games' sales in Japan as
>1: 480k
>2: 240k
>3: (no data)
>4: 210k
So I'd say it was doing decent although I wouldn't say that's a "huge hit" for a company like Konami

This and Fantasy Life are underrated af imo.

i tried playing the first one but stopped after awhile because the sound design was really grading to me. seemed pretty neat though.
