the downfall of this series is that you really do need to play the other games to find the enjoyment in the world building. At the very least to enjoy CS you should play 1 and 2 first.

No. There are two options for this series.
>Play in release order
>Start with Rean's games despite returning characters, backtrack to Sky and Crossbell while you wait for NISA to slowly localize future games
The best thing you can do? Pick either Sky or Cold Steel. Play that arc to completion. Drop the series after that point unless you're in love with the world of the games.
