Sky will feel dated and it is a very slow burn initially since most of the first game is just learning to be a bracer but it's still enjoyable and you'll like the bits where erebonia is mentioned.
Don't be ashamed to look up maps or guides though, the first two games love to blatantly hide quests or throw you into dungeons without a map to refer to.
