Why do all modern game have the shitty minimalistic looking UI? Even multiplayer games like Dota 2 and LoL went from having a great looking UI to this bullshit.

Modern games use the same engines and they're made by unskilled devs in a pipeline process. It's a mix of lack of skill and not wanting to rock the boat

It's easier to make them and consumers now expect them.
Left doesn't look any better though, both are shit.

What was the last game with a good UI that had SOVL?

It''s basically
>Back then, games weren't as established and were made with passion, so there was a lot of experimentation.
>Nowadays, passion is uncommon and everything is done following a textbook.

assassins creed kinda started it with its slick UI juxtaposed with the medieval levant setting. though animus was a central part of the story so it served a purpose.

Answer is simple. HTML interface libraries. Now everyone can use typical CSS and design elements.

I refuse to play a game if it has this type of UI.

Shogun 2 Total War
it was a fucking masterclass in UI design

Because it takes less work AND soulless UI makes a product feel more premium/adult/professional to braindead consoomers who hate personality

kek these games' UI look AI generated

Publishers bring in "UX Consultants". These are people who've just graduated from video game college and haven't actually played any games, but they come in and tell people how to make interfaces and other things.

Witcher 1's equipment UI was literally perfect. It had everything you needed and they ruined it.

guilty gear xrd: revelator 2

Because you want information to be easily and immediately understood by the player

Cause they are creativelly bankrupt. Back in the good times artists were hired to do even cool UI and cool shit in the minimal details.
Now they just care about doing the minimal shit everyone does and do diversity hiring

>browsing through a computer-style grid of items that looks the same as every other game's inventory
lame
>putting all your stuff into a backpack and rummaging through it to find things
10/10 gameplay

Because it scales well with different resolutions. Flat colors and gradients work better in the long run than menus using textures.
