>3 shit games with shit gameplay
Not sure, but they probably shouldn't have made this series

Third birthday literally killed the franchise

Losing the rights to nearly every element of the franchise killed the franchise

Squiinix

First game got called a Resident Evil clone
Second game WAS a Resident Evil clone
Third Birthday is a PSP game

Shits like my fave series but I understand why it didn't do well, it didn't match up at all to what was considered its competition and it was seriously clunky.

I don't know, I recently played the first one after always putting it off because of the way battles were fought but I really enjoyed it. I may play the second but hear mixed things about it.

Probably changing franchise name 11 years after the release of the 2nd game, didn't help either.

Second is more action puzzle game than jank ass RPG
Its like the difference between Toejam and Earl 1 and 2, both are good games they're just very different and seem only tangentially related

Your parents shouldnt have made you.

the source material is garbage.

T3B is fun and I'm tired of pretending it isn't

2 was so fucking good

2 > 3 > 1
Don't @ me

I hate the dryfield music
Its like a 5 second loop and I CAN'T STOP HEARING IT

They lost the rights to the brand itself so they just slapped the characters they made into a previously scrapped game to make a quick buck and cement that they really don't give a shit about the people who want more.

I actually like the second game more myself. Both from a gameplay AND story perspective. Don't get me wrong, I still love the first, but the second was actually the first one I played so it holds a special place for me. Though beyond that I really do just consider it a better game -personally-. But I fully admit that's based on my own preferences and don't argue with people who love the first more, I can certainly understand their view.

But who knows? Maybe they'll get the rights back and we'll get an ACTUAL third entry. I still carry a small bit of hope we'll at the very least see some remasters someday, if not full remakes. Slim chances, but an user can dream...

PE2 is basically a Resident Evil clone because it uses tank controls and fixed camera angles. Even Aya dresses like Jill Valentine from RE3. The only memorable part of PE2 was the cold refreshing taste of Coca-Cola™

Is the second one fun? Does it have random battles? How's the gameplay?

something something shower scene

It has NO random battles, every fight is area specific
The gameplay is like, you go to an area with a fight, pull up gun, BATTLE TRANSITION, Tank control around the area, shoot bullets in real time, call up menu to use MAGIC or Items, win fight, get points, use points to buy guns from people.
The thing I like about PE2 is that it has a ranking system based on how many of all the fights you did, with the best items being on a full kill run and a low kill run.
Its also got other game modes where it changes the enemies and item drops.

I really love 2, playing it now and then.

2 is great I'd put it on par with RE2 or 3
>no more random encounters
>level design is much better
>combat is better, P.E. abilities feel stronger
>has lots of flavor text
>puzzles and key hunting are fun
>great monster designs
>big arsenal of weapons

>Is it fun
Yes. Thoigh it's perhaps not as *Exciting* as the first one. There's less things that seem straight up magic and the story is -relatively- more grounded and much smaller in scale, but that also allows more focus on Aya herself.

>Does it have random battles
Not like the first one. There are a few Ambushes but most of the fights are actually completely static, many of which you actually have to go out of your way to fight. Though it's a good Idea too. NOt only does it give you more points and exp, it also helps you endgame score, which help in the various replay modes.

>Gameplay
A more active, RE style lock on system. You still have free movement but it's not turn based like the first one. The action only pauses when your in the menus for your items or mitochondrial powers, which have also been streamlined compared to the first one. In a good way though. I know that word can signal some bad choices but they avoided it this time.

Over all it's a great game. It's not Perfect by any means but I replay it at least once a year myself, so it still holds up. I defenately recommend you giving it a shot, I really doubt you'll regret it.

Although if you do, even at the risk of some minor spoilers: I WOULD look up the solutions to the puzzles, or at least the more vague and obscure ones like the dryfield safe or the fullmoon lock. The first has a lot of trail and error/ one chance only elements and the latter is based on japanese folklore that's not really known outside the country. To make matters worse, if you fuck it up, you not only don't get another chance but are locked into the bad ending so yeah.. not perfect.

Aya is cute

>has lots of flavor text
Oh boy does it ever. I may not have liked the game nearly so much if Aya didn't have not one but often several insights into almost everything in her surroundings. It's really one of my most favorite things about the game.

>>great monster designs
I've seen better monsters in MtF transition surgeries

that's a huge bitch

Exploding Babies though

yeah there's no random encounters but you want to face as many as possible anyway because that means more xp

>Third Birthday is a PSP game
can I just jump into this one?

>"let's strip everything original about the first game, make it a RE clone, and set it... IN THE DESERT!"
2 killed the franchise
