It's oversimplifying it to say it's ONLY about hardcore gamers. Like you're just coping and seething and projecting. It's more like critiquing games as a medium. "Some games love making you go through pointless busywork to advance", so NMH literally has you do menial labor. "I love the story/gameplay," so they just deny you either. The rant Travis has during the first boss is to say, "This game isn't going to be good, but for some reason I have to beat it."
