Name one (1) flaw.
Name one (1) flaw
Bowser's jumpsquat and grab range
the smell
no buffer and pretty much every player is a pedophile
terrible balance
No Daisy.
FGCbros....
Marth's grab range is greater than yoshi's.
The ledge's mechanics make it a position of power rather than disadvantage.
Skill floor too high for competitive play
Poor balance
no Wario
It's owned by nintendo
no entrace animations
really have no idea why they decided to prioritize the 'trophies come to life' premise on that front
>The ledge's mechanics make it a position of power rather than disadvantage.
This is good, Smash 4 and Ultimate's system is braindead, sometimes it's even more advantageous to be a bitch off stage, since everyone can recover from anywhere.
The c-stick in adventure mode
yoshis running grab being almost useless due to x axis or was it z? i forget.
also theres too much of a gap between the high tiers and mid/low tiers. if the rest of the cast didnt get stomped by high tiers so hard melee would be a perfect game.
Not a flaw but having to practice every day just to keep my inputs consistent & precise made me eventually move onto PM+ which is a bit more lenient on my boomer hands.
>The ledge's mechanics make it a position of power rather than disadvantage.
This is only kind of true. Being on ledge is generally pretty safe, having to try to grab the ledge is very risky. That's actually mostly a good thing, because it means getting knocked off stage is scary and edgeguarding is strong, which is good. But if you do make it back you have a lot of options to get back on stage and can start fighting for space again, because attacking someone on the ledge means risking having to try to get back to ledge yourself if it doesn't work out.
If you mean ledgehogging, then tough. If you're in a situation where you have no options but to try to grab at the ledge, no double jump or upB to stage or to change the timing, can't airdodge up, can't drift mixup etc, and your opponent is in a position where he can cover the ledge safely, you lost and deserve to die.
>poor balance
Melee is a balanced game, higher percent of the pool is viable compared to most smash and fighting games despite developers being able to patch balance.
Tier lists are always changing, Zelda was once considered S-tier and Yoshi is now considered ~A tier by most due to one pro player pushing the character.
I have 0 belief the real down and dirty low tiers like Bowser, G&W or Pichu will ever win a (super)major, but most mid-tiers could if the right player pushes them in the right direction.
melees balance isnt that bad. i just think the gap between high and mid/low tier is a bit much. sure someone could push characters like gnw or ganon and prove they arent totally worthless at a high level, but it wont change the fact these characters are just so, so much worse than fox and sheik. the gap is too big. that being said i still love the game, but that fact will always hold melee back.
You can't use the C stick for attacks in any single player modes because it's stuck with the most pointless camera controls.
>these characters are just so, so much worse than fox and sheik
Last time I watch any melee there was a Pikachu, Jigglypuff, and Marth crushing face.
>>Zelda was once considered S-tier
>he doesn't know
??? all of those characters are good though. i mean characters like doc, mario, ganon, link, young link, gnw, pichu, kirby, mewtwo, zelda, roy, and ness
This is straight up not true man. I like Melee but less than half the roster is even remotely capable of winning a supermajor. Modern fighting games have a few higher tiers and a few lower tiers but they're way closer together than Fox and Bowser, and you usually see the majority of characters, if not straight up all of them, represented in top level competition. Even in Strive and DBFZ which are relatively terribly balanced for modern fighters you still see Faust and Yamcha in top8s of the biggest tournaments when played by specialists. To put it another way, even in relatively poorly balanced modern fighting games, the worst characters are basically on the same level as Yoshi, #10 out of 26.
Old games are worse balanced on average, but most of the ones people still play competitively are still better off than Melee. Melee is like 3S except half of the cast is on Remy's level or worse compared to the top tiers.
extremely poor balance
too many clones
glitches and oversights make some aspects not competitive, like infinite ledge grab timeouts
