Every time I remember Spiral Knights, I quietly hope that it goes into EoS so that the community can host private servers already.

This was fucking kino.
Back when I played it with my friends from middle school I almost doxxed a girl friend of mine by typing her real name in all chat like a retard
Good times
I played gunslinger with a repeating yellow gun and a cowboy hat

Theres already a private server in the works. The community drama and stories of this game went really deep in the last few years, and then it finally kind of died in 2021. games still playable and monetized though
>some guy pops up as a new player
>really likes the game and has programming skills
>learns the game in depth very quickly with some help, gets a lot of friends in the discord
>datamines a fuckton of shit and discovers a lot about the devs in a game that has a metric fuckton of dev/community lore
>with little help, make a custom launcher and easy modding tools for everyone, on top of a ton of QoL fixes, and even more complicated stuff like allowing people to rotate their camera around
>devs eventually get mad, try to DMCA the mod making guy
>eventually he arrives at a pretty fair compromise
>company bans him anyway and calls him a '' blackmailer '' because he tried over and over again to get them to fix a bug that allowed people to crash everyone in an instance, including haven with 100+ players, after warning them someone would use it for mass trolling in an upcoming community event
>literally a few days later
>he announces he has a private server in the works based on an old prototype he found
>multiple people get to play with his prototype in early testing and even try out some old/unreleased content
>not entirely uncoincidentally, the next year (2021) the game is significantly deader than before and most of the community hype and passion is greatly lost

forgot to mention
>>>with little help, make a custom launcher and easy modding tools for everyone, on top of a ton of QoL fixes, and even more complicated stuff like allowing people to rotate their camera around
He unironically did more for this game than the devs did. his tools became extremely popular, at one point like 1/3 of the very active dedicated playerbase was using it. everyone that tried his shit loved it, now you could make your game run better, launch better, have more settings, have some custom coloring on your weapons, change some effects and sound effects, make whole levels have a different aesthetic, and literally anything that worked client-side.

>Theres already a private server in the works
I know, that's why I hope the official servers go under some day.

The community could literally do a better job supporting SK than the lazy-ass devs who just release lootboxes to collect money from the handful of remaining whales.

do you know of other games that have private servers available?

i heard club penguin rewritten crashed miserably.
Neopets has some unnoficial fan versions that preserved old stuff, but they're all private.

No but I remember Puzzle Pirates that came before it.

somehow that game is still alive-ish and getting new promotions

harry mack (and the other actual OG developers) are awesome. I need to try out slime rancher, which they made after leaving SK

You only played this game
To get the hat in TF2

I played this shit as a dumbass underage but the OST is deeply ingrained in my brain

Nah I was just into MMOs at the time and Spiral Knights had a really good art style. The gameplay wasn't bad either, and I still listen to the music sometimes.
Shame it's kind of ded

well yeah but that was a great way for me to actually try the game out

>The gameplay wasn't bad either
the gameplay was straight up great with lategame gear and some lategame areas. Too bad they neutered the enemy AI in one of the very first updates so most of the game is piss easy

I don't need to remember it. I think about it every day.

That's the good shit.

It started like that, but I still got pretty deep into the game before I stopped caring about the grind. It was a good solo experience for early 2010s but I can't imagine going back to it, there's better games out there now.

The worst part is the TF2 hat fucking sucks just like most crossover cosmetics so it became a waste of a backpack slot pretty quick.

Let's not forget that any funds that are being gained from Spiral Knights are being put into the other new game they are publishing. Devs are still greedy as ever.

this game was the reason i phased out of TF2, lmao

Grey Havens no longer have any connections to Monomi Park, which was the original SK team which now created slime rancher 1 and 2

>Play the fuck outta it
>Actually spend like $60 in crystal because I'm having so much fun with my friends
>Play the auction house to get rich enough to run as much as I want with friends
>Buy lavish decadence like the scissor blades I've amassed so much wealth
>Achieve PEAK BOMBER PERFECTION with every bomb maxed

>Update hits that changes how weapon upgrades and ressing works
>No longer feels like a team game since you're not debating on who's health to cut or if it's worth it
>New upgrade system is shitty, even with as much fabulous crystal as I've hoarded
>TFW we never did our top to bottom run because of it...

I wish they had built the game up in a good way instead of killing it. It was mad fun.

>>New upgrade system is shitty, even with as much fabulous crystal as I've hoarded
it was good though

They really didn't kill the game overall in terms of gameplay, i agree the new revives are lame but on the other hand it had so many great improvements, like the overhauled guns and all. what it really needed was a big rebalance and more content, maybe changing revive system again

I remember Gunner update being hyped for years... and when it finally came out, it had literally zero changes from what I saw on Test Server prior to that.
Game kinda died after Shadow Lair update - shitty pets (never forget nerfs to Dragon and stealth pet being just thanks to stealth skill) and Gunner update did nothing to improve the game. After lead designer left and founded new studio to make Slime Rancher, I knew the game was doomed - Chaos set (later replaced by Black Cat set) and Brandish series were best equipment to use (so 99% of other equipment was just shit), removal of mist energy and elevator fee (back when 100 crystal energy was 4k crowns on average) was replaced with Forge system and whales controlling the market (100 energy became 7-8k crown on average), and shitty recolored cosmetics was the only constant content.
SK had insane potential to be MMO Zelda Four Swords, but then all of it was wasted after 2012 or so.

I regret scrapping my spiral sallet
