Do you still miss it? It still feels crazy to me that such a major and influential part of gaming for some 30 years basically just went and disappeared. It's like if Nintendo would unceremoniously stop making Mario or Zelda all of a sudden.
Metal Gear
It's not as influential as Mario or Zelda though I do get you. Not really surprised though since it felt like Kojima wanted off the bus since 3 at least.
i havent played the first few entries in a while I'll pick up the new remasters they announce on TGS's though. Here's hoping they will port 4 too.
Kojima is a hack mgs was never good kys trannies
Lmao
cope faggot
I hope those remaster rumors are true just so the Fox Engine pachinko assets (or something comparable) are finally put to use.
Metal Gear was always more of an auteur series than even stuff like Mario and Zelda, it was Kojima's baby and no more Kojima means no more Metal Gear. Not everything has to go on in perpetuity, other media has series that end so why not vidya?
I wish I could live in an alternative where MGS5 had levels like the one in Ground Zeroes rather than an open world with a bunch of small boring camps
>do you still miss it?
Not really desu. MGS always was for me a story focused series. So, it continuing forever never made sense to me, especially when the story already had a conclusive ending in MGS4 (even if t was bad). If anything, I felt like it outstayed its welcome. Peace Walker and MGS5 were straight up a snorefest.
There's threads about this series literally daily
Whether it's MGR memes, MSG5 posting, reminiscing about peace walker, talking about 1-3, it's always on Any Forums
You niggers have never given it time to actually be gone
>an aueur series
You say that. But he pretty much wanted to be done with it longe ago, but her had to made more because it sells.
/lick
>influential
beyond cutscenes being standard, not really
it took until MGS4 to get control scheme on par with Splinter Cell
>Metal Gear was always more of an auteur series than even stuff like Mario and Zelda, it was Kojima's baby and no more Kojima means no more Metal Gear.
Eh, there's some decent Metal Gear stuff that Kojima had little involvement in and Kojima himself wanted the series to go on without him. The whole high concept alt history/future setting of Metal Gear is quite unique and there's nothing else that really fills that void in media.
Also the fact that Metal Gear was essentially low brow entertainment with some high brow ideas was part of the charm. The fact that you had a 1980's video game series inspired by mecha and 80's action movies talking about nuclear deterrence is what makes it fun. In a way it's the fact that Metal Gear went on way longer than it had any right to is what made it so iconic in the first place. If you think about it it's kind of crazy that you had a AAA 2015 video game where a character is unironically still referred to by the name of "Big Boss" like it's still some badly localized 1980's japanese video game.
>beyond cutscenes being standard, not really
Metal Gear 1 popularized the stealth genre
Metal Gear Solid 1 popularized the "cinematic game" that would define AAA gaming
Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 popularized 4th wall break meta fuckery with stuff like switching the channel and Fission Mailed.
It has absolutely had a big influence on the industry, for better or worse.
Should've ended after MGS3, I fucking hate people that can't accept when something has run its course and Metal Gear died long before MGSV.
>I wish I could live in an alternative where MGS5 had levels like the one in Ground Zeroes rather than an open world with a bunch of small boring camps
That's kind of what the FOB's were meant to be.
After mgs4-5? It can stay dead and buried as far as I’m concerned kojima is a hack. And he’s never been able to make legitimately fun gameplay. Then he intentionally butchered the story after 3.
>Should've ended after MGS3
Nah, 4, PW, V and Rising are still better than most video games. Video games aren't art so I don't give a shit about the "sanctity" of a series being preserved.
I only agree about rising. Who would’ve thunk it. Give it to another dev team and they’ll make combat legitimately fun.

I started playing MGSV again since it’s the only one I have access to on PC, I’m fine with it ending but I do miss it. I just wish the entire series was playable on PC. All my consoles are in storage and I can’t set them up now.
In a perfect world, Kojima would have ended MGSV proper, found a successor to start a new Metal Gear franchise with new characters in the same world. And it would spin off to do its own thing while the original Kojima story can be self contained.
But even with it completely ending like it has, I just wish the entire franchise could be preserved on PC. It’s only going to get more difficult to play the games.
