Game is simultaneously a masterpiece and one of the worst games ever
Oblivion is remembered as a good game by a lot of people because for a lot of people it was the first expansive world RPG they ever played and it had a good art style
and its fun
it's shit but comfy
All it really needed was for leveled enemies to not have increasing health every level and it would have been much better
The TES I’ve replayed the least. Skyrim has better mods and Morrowind is just a better game. Usually my characters just become skooma addicts which is more fun than playing it like normal anyway lmao
Let's be real, it's shit, and so is Skyrim. Unplayable and boring without mods to spice things up.
It came out at the right time. It was very very popular on 360 and PS3 and Wii did not release until 6 months later, so it was compared to PS2, and GameCube games of the time which of course it was miles ahead of graphically and technologically. Yes of course the combat and gameplay are actually pretty shit looking back, even compared to games of the time.
It's a lot better once you realize that it's basically a monty python rpg. A lot of its ineptitude is genuine, but a lot is also sardonic piss taking.
Based.
Skyrim's guild quests have like 3 quests then you are the guildmaster. Every single small town in Oblivion had more people living there than the capital of Skyrim. Skyrim tries to take itself quite serious but its still a goofy olen world sandbox game. Oblivion knows what it is and doesn't try to take itself seriously.
Only thing that really bothers me with oblivion are the same looking dungeons, the modular tilesets just repeat and repeat everything looks the same.
This, I played it and Fallout 3 when I was 10-11 and loved them.
any leveling overhauls people would recommend?
Oblivion is also hampered by the fact that there's just too fucking many oblivion gates. They only made about a dozen different oblivion level layouts, so they should have just scrapped the random gate mechanic entirely and only had the city gates and plot gates. Mankar Cameron should have also had more screen time because he was the only interesting character in the main quest.
Oblivion is only good with mods.
>Skyrim's guild quests have like 3 quests then you are the guildmaster.
But Oblivion's quest are even worse. Mage guild is just do one quest per town then some ebin meme quest. It's a theme park.
> Oblivion knows what it is and doesn't try to take itself seriously.
>its shit on purpose
Imagine actually liking TES and having to deal with people like this.
I used oblivion xp, but I haven't played in over half a decade and supposedly there are better, more modern options.
It's not shit, it just doesn't pretend to be epic like skyrim does.
Oblivion is a typical Bugthesda game
>Morrowind is just a better game.
>gameplay is complete trash
>better game
you mean any Bethseda Fallout/TES game
>But Oblivion's quest are even worse.
It has the best quests in TES overall. Which frankly isn't saying much.
>it just doesn't pretend to be epic like skyrim does.
You literally go through portals to Hell and chaperone the next heir to throne around. Its not a matter of being "epic", its a matter of trying to have a consistent and immersive world instead of a single player MMO. It's just a game for people who don't like video games.
>It has the best quests in TES overall.
No it doesn't. If you like Oblivion quests you don't like TES.
It's definitely one of the worst-programmed masterpieces ever made.
I imagine most would look at Oblivion more fondly if it had an OpenMW/Daggerfall Unity equivalent that allowed for a much higher level of stability while offering specific graphical features like vastly improved lod visuals right out of the box.
I agree that oblivion's main quest is bad, it's written in the same way all of skyrim is.
Morrowind quests are worse
Skyrim>Morrowind>>>>>>>>>>>>>>shit>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Oblivion
The generic rat quest in morrowind is better put together than any quest in oblivion.
The random gate mechanic would have been fine if they functioned more like the Order spires in Shivering Isles, where you just have to fight a collection of enemies for the gate to shut instead of having to run through the same dungeons over and over again.
Delusional.
Oblivion's rat quest is far better than morrowind's.
Literally no one I've met, (aside from people on their first play through) follows the main quest. Especially the oblivion gates part of it. When I play, I just wander around doing quests and clearing dungeons.
>MOUNTAIN LIONS? IN MY BASEMENT!?
This, except replace art style with soundtrack.
What's wrong with fast travel?
