An AI can generate pic-related now. It's fucking over for artists making gaming assets isn't it?

Good.

If they only need generic assets yea, for anything with more style they'll still need an artist
Anyway, I assume AI generated art will still need to be licenced for comercial use once they get really good at it

It's gotten really fucking good recently.

all utterly soulless

Now command it to create a sexy anime girl.

They do have content limitation on the current iterations of the AI.

Then what fucking good is it?

Ideal future: Game devs will leverage AI to exponentially increase game content without blowing budget and missing deadlines.
Realistic future: Game devs will hire even less skilled workers who will churn out generic soulless AI generated assets with no creativity or nuance.

AI cannot create anything without input
AI generated art will always be derivative and hacky

You do realize those aren't 3d models and you can't use those in a game or have them be animated, right

Hey, just like most industry artists.

Not if the AI learns and improves itself via a feedback loop using all its output.

I'm sure there's something out there that can make 3d models out of images today.

I hope ai creates a game where it takes a 3d picture of you and puts you in a game.

nice still image, now make it generate an optimized 3d model

Indeed
Not on all AI

there is sir
it's called outsourcing to india

Are they actually models?

Always keep in mind:
This is the AI on what is relatively "Day One". Any argument about "well it's not perfect" and "sometimes it looks weird" is moot when that will all be ironed out within three years, it might even be ironed out within 12 months who fucking knows.

Artists are fucked. They are completely fucked. Any artist thinking they're going to be okay is wrong. Not just because the AI is outrageously powerful, but because the people who are going to start really going hog wild with this thing to maxmise their profits are going to be those same scumbags who were doing the NFT grifts for the past two or three years. They relentlessly infiltrated and infected art communities and businesses at every level, and they'll do it again here. I'm not really sure in what way, perhaps they fund the creation of these art generator AIs, perhaps specializing them and offering them to various businesses as an alternative to employing human artists. Or perhaps it will simply be that they create art through AI tools and use that to create a portfolio of "their own work" and suddenly regular artists are in competition with ex-NFT guys who are selling images they described to a robot. Whatever it is, you can be certain it will be fucking horrible.
