Other urls found in this thread:
it's more Alien 2 than Alien 1 in terms of action to horror ratio
Nothing more scary than Half Life 2.
btw its supposed to be system shock 2 i used wrong pic
decently scary
even after 8 or so playthroughs the cyborg midwives and beavers creep me out
the thing you got to realize is that the sound design is very good and often times you hear the enemies before you see them which scares one more as they don't know what to expect around the corner and would rather just not go there
less scary than that hl2 ravenholm or whatever
it's at least 2 x spookier than half-life
and the spookiness follows you throughout most of the game unlike half-life where it sorta comes and goes
the game is very creepy and has a lot of horror elements, but it is an action game. there's only one outright horror part i can think of and it was in engineering i think when you gutta go through a big dark warehouse or something
Both for 1 and 2, it can get pretty spooky. Hearing enemies clanking away through the corridors, the moans of agony and delight over joining the Many, the audio tapes about the ever growing infection, the ghosts of the dead showing up.
What kind of horror game did you try and gave up on to serve as a baseline? Half-Life isn't what I'd consider horror so if that's the baseline you're better off avoiding SS.
system shock 1 is only scary until you get the laser rapier
the only somewhat spooky parts are the beginning and some spider sections in the mid game
It's really scary, don't let Any Forums tough guy contrarians fool you. For me it's scarier than Alien: Isolation.
i avoid horror games desu, i finished both hl1 and hl2 and hated scary sections, i used to be spooked by dark souls 3 zombies lmao,
I finished all of them and progressively got desanitized to horror elements
But that is a pic of system shock 2.
bro do you even remember WHERE you get the laser rapier?
fucking Maintenance level scared the shit out of me my first time through
yeah it's the deck where the inviso-mutants first appear; the one with the power turned off so it's dark as hell
for me it's the grenade crystal shard. come at me alien shits
Remember spooky moments in Bioshock? It's kinda like that but throughout the whole game.
The spiders are awful. The rest is just atmospheric spooky zone.
More creepy than scary.
there is no crystal shard in system shock 1
Music sorta demphasizes the horror.
Voice acting when it really matters sells it though, usually.
>Music sorta demphasizes the horror.
hello brainlet
You're thinking of the cargo bays on Engineering, not only is it practically pitch fucking black but it's a pretty nasty uptick in difficulty. I'd say other parts of the game can be pretty spooky depending on what scares you, but that's the only part of the game I can think of when they just turn the lights off and say "good luck, motherfucker"
excepting the cyborg ambush on Rec when they LITERALLY turn off the lights, because you can just turn them right back on again
>YOu kiLLeD iT'S SpaWn
>GOoooOOOoOooD
I have no idea why but out of everything this line has stuck with me for years.
The only thing scary is the respawning enemies until you get some skills and equipment to just treat it as a run and gun shooter. Then the cargo bay or whatever it's called is stressful because of all the dead angles and exploding robots most people won't be built to deal with.
cyborg assassins?
Do you mean "you killed their young"?
Try it out but if that's how quickly you can get spooked than you might not last 10 minutes. 2 can be particularly effective with its god tier audio spread. For example
>Doors open with a little whoosh sound
>You're looking around inside a room
>Suddenly hear a door open
>Quickly turn around
>There's nothing there
>You just heard an enemy close-by opening a door
I'd describe it as a survival horror game. The tight corridors also help with occasional organic jumpscare moments as you turn around a corner and come head first into an enemy.
yes
you're thinking of
>Gooooood
>Yooou've murdered their yooooooung
i remember when as a kid friend borrowed me a copy and told its best game he ever played, think i lasted 60s before i got scared shitless and uninstalled
Shit my bad, it's been a while since I played the game. Kinda wanna try it out again.
