What went wrong with the music and environments in this game? Were they pressed for time or was Nintendo using their good art direction people for botw 2 or something? I can't think of any memorable OST from the game besides the moebius boss theme and that's only because it gets used like 50 times. Similarly the zones lack soul compared to any of the other xenogames.

I liked the environments.

this

the ost was good too, OP is a faggot

its simple really. most staff of xenoblade X (the best looking xeno game by far) were transferred to botw1's dev team in early development of xeno X. takahashi has complained on iwata asks about how he lost developers early on, which was most likely for this reason. its supported by the fact the first area of X is the most detailed zone along with the very first area of the second zone (noctilum), and all the other biomes lacking depth. the last area (cauldros) has giant empty inaccessible buildings that take up so much space, as well as the desert area having a big void of nothing.

forgot to say- this is probably why xeno 3 has very bland and forgettable enviorments, as all the talent was moved to botw.

>it's supported by the fact I just pulled straight out of my ruined, cavernous, bleeding asshole

By the time XC3 was in development Monolith split into a Kyoto team and a Tokyo team.

I liked the music.

I feel you OP. The game's areas had zero charm to them. They were all pretty tiny and had boring music that didn't even come close to anything in 1, 2, or even X. And the worst part was, there was no novelty to the areas at all, it was more like an endless wave of "hey remember that thing from Xenoblade 1 and 2?" than anything neat like exploring the Bionis/Mechonis in 1 or the titans in 2. The world just felt like an extremely tame and small version of X's world.

Glad i'm not alone in this, nothing really stood out to me which is a shame since every other Xenoblade has always had memorable landscapes and music. The only songs I can even remember enjoying are the Moebius themes like you said and Nia and Melia's themes as well, and those were just covers of songs from their respective games.

Areas were great, felt good to have actually huge open areas again instead of the smaller titans from 2, and for it actually have stuff in the world so it was fun to explore. Get some taste retard

Right? There's also entire areas that are completely optional accessible from pretty early on, with substantial sidequests and colonies and stuff. The previous games generally just stuck high level UMs in nooks and crannies and called it a day.

Yeah I was shocked by how many times I just walked into huge optional areas by accident, people who call this world design bad clearly didn't explore enough and blindly just followed objective markers. The optional areas all have the coolest looking environment designs too.

I really liked that half the heroes are optional, i feared that the main history would be just going from colony to colony destroying flame clocks

I agree with this but I wish sidequests took advantage of those optional areas more. Seems wasted for 1 hero quest or side chain quest.
This. Best combat music in the trilogy.

>music
fell for the atmospheric meme so area music is worse. combat and cutscenes still great

>environments
were fine mostly, constrained by having to have decayed versions of areas from 1/2. Origin had boring level design but it was the one part of the game where they didn't have to have 1/2 environments and it looks fantastic

You're clearly a gay fag. The music is the most memorable shit since the first one. The environments are just fine considering the worlds is two broken gods and some titans smashed together, then fucked up by constant war and annihilation events. The only real issue is not nearly enough smaller easter eggs, especially in many of the hidden locations. Most of the ones they had were from 2, and I think the only one from 1 was the old teleport pad that used to be under Alcomoth, and one of the leg guideposts. A piece of Old Colony 9 jutting out somewhere would have been awesome. A half buried chunk of the huge Mayneth likeness that was inside the head of the Mechonis jutting out somewhere (a la Planet of the Apes,) Piece of the old Ether Mine of Old Colony 6. There just needed to be MORE of that kind of thing, especially since the map is riddled with tons of hidden spooky caves, that only have a container the end or a red elite monster that is typically easy to kill if you can get in that far.

>3 more memorable than 2
3 has background music in almost all its areas. X is also more memorable though for the wrong reasons

I won't even touch 2 no matter how good the music, game play, and environments are simply due to how much the plot sucks.

Maybe you should try playing 2 before you judge it so stupidly. I think it has a better plot than 1.

All 2 needs is redone color grading and a complete overhaul of the garrish menus, lvl tags over monsters blotting up your view, no more TED talk-sounding tard constantly stopping you with tutorials every 3 minutes, etc. Fix all that and it's really only the first 3 chapters that are inane as fuck before it gets good. Not much you can do about that. Or the VA...
