They halved 2's budget like a week before filming. Film suffered due to it.

Also the story was literally supposed to revolve around saving the father from hell but he pulled out quite last minute. So tons of script changes, budget got raped. Lots of the movie was supposed to take place in the Hellscape and if you seen the movie you'll know that the dimension ended up being a few matte paintings and literally a cardboard corridor that the girl runs back and forth on about 20 times. It's pretty fucked.

I consider it one of the best movies I've ever seen, and it blew my mind when I found out they were capable of doing it with a low budget and script changes.

The first movie has such an atrocious final ~10 minutes, but it somehow doesn’t matter. Could never get into 2, to me it ruined the lore and philosophy of the original, even if it has good parts
